ESTÍ (PANAMA) HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT

Client: AES Panamá S.A.

Location: Provincia de Chiriquí, Panama.

Project Description

Estí hydroelectric power plant began its operations during 2003, using Chiriquí and La Fortuna power plant discharge in addition to Caldera, Chiriquí and Barrigón River water. It has a power of 120 MW and a storage volume for 11 hours of generation at its maximum capacity.

Our Participation

Through our experience in tunnel development, we performed a forensic analysis of the headrace tunnel collapse, carrying out a study of the spillway works, in addition to a detailed geological survey, sampling and validation of the laboratory analysis results. Additionally, the revision and later validation of the repair solutions were prepared, as well as the corresponding tunnel repair work supervision on site.

The geology, geotechnics, and hydraulic and civil work calculation disciplines were merged to repair the tunnel and restore the normal operations of the plant.
